Applesauce

contributed by Lucy Sandidge

This is the basic recipe - but depending on what variety of apples you use, you will have to tweak this. This recipe never turns out the same twice, some batches are just better than others!

1 bag of apples - if you get them from a fruit stand get however many you need to fill your crockpot
peel apples and slice - place in crock pot
2 cups brown sugar
2 cups apple cider - raw cider, if you can get it, is the best - (if you get good apple cider you can even use plain store bought granny smith apples)
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp allspice
2 tsp of vanilla

cook on low 3 or 4 hours til apples are tender
take potato masher and mash apples
cook a little more
this freezes very well
tweak by adding more cinnamon, sugar or vanilla - do not add more cloves, it usually doesn't compliment it
can serve as applesauce or serve hot with vanilla ice cream on top
