Black Mississippi Shape Note tradition
About this book
Note from Gaylon Powell:
The Mississippi Black Shape-Note Traditions was a booklet (one of
seven) that was generated by the Shape Note Gathering of Mountain
View, Arkansas. It was a collection of Southern Gospel Songs that
the African-American singers of Mississippi used outside of their
regular Sacred Harp singings. It was songs that could be found in
Southern Gospel Singing books in various locations through out the
South.
