Julietta Haynes: b. 1917, d. 2012

Dr. Julietta Haynes (b. 1917, d. 2012) contributed the Julietta Haynes Collection of Sacred Harp Shape-note Singing Recordings, 1969-1971 to UNC-CH.

Her bio, from there: Dr. Julietta Haynes (1917-) received her PhD in History from the University of Texas at Austin in 1959. Her PhD dissertation, titled "A History of the Primitive Baptists", is available through the North Carolina Collection. From 1969–1971 Haynes recorded Sacred Harp shape-note singing, a tradition of sacred choral music, in North Carolina and Alabama. At the time of the field recordings, Haynes lived in Buies Creek, Harnett County, N.C.
